CHAINSAW COURSE – TRIM AND CUT FELLED TREES

A standard course includes 1 day of training and assessment.
This unit describes the outcomes required to trim and cut felled trees with a chainsaw and to complete operator maintenance. The training and assessment include theoretical and practical components.
The unit applies to forestry worker, chainsaw operator, forest harvester, harvesting technician, arboriculture worker. If you’re using a chainsaw at work, you need to be able to demonstrate that you’ve been properly trained and formally assessed.
Anyone operating a chainsaw should apply for this course.
The course consists of the following topics:
- Prepare for trimming and cutting.
- Visually assess felled trees – identify defects and stresses within the tree.
- Plan your cuts – bridging, swinging, side blind, boring, wedge and riping cuts.
- Use the chainsaw to trim and cut trees – delimb trees, trim branches, trim burls and other small growth.
- Clean up and complete equipment maintenance – refueling, sharpening and inspection of all parts of the chainsaw.
There are no entry requirements for these courses.

On successful completion of this course, participants will be issued a ‘Statement of Attainment’ certifying competence of the unit and a wallet card.
Trim and cut felled trees class room (face to face) and practical training is conducted at the LT Training Nambour facility at Youth Ave, PCYC Nambour, QLD, 4560.
Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted on-site at the premises of industry clients providing there are suitable facilities.
LT Training does not offer RPL at this point in time due to the high-risk work activity and changing legislation.
